One has to make certain changes in the settings of Quest X10 to make it operatable on the beach. You can visit bestdissertation.com site after making these challenges, I can assure you that this platform is completely going to work fine.
Thought I would update this thread. I have recently been out on the beach with the X10 again but this time using the new Beast 13x9 coil. This gives excellent ground coverage but is also a LOT less sensitive to knocks than the standard blade coil. You do still need to follow my previous advice of manual ground balance and lower sensitivity down to around 60 but it works well. The surprising thing is that you would think the larger coil would make the machine very unbalanced. But this is not the case. It actually felt better than having the standard coil fitted. Maybe that is just me but I liked it a lot.
Hi John. I think we have discussed this over on facebook but in case anyone else comes across this question the X10 works fine on the beach but you do need to adjust the settings. Manual ground balance to zero and drop sensitivity to around 60. It is of course not intended to be a wet sand machine but it can be made to work reasonably well. To manually set ground balance, first raise the coil well away from the ground and then press and hold the ground balance button on the right of the control box. With that held in use the up/down buttons on the left to adjust the setting.
