I just got my new quest X10. Can someone help me to understand how to use and how to set-up the ALL METAL mode function ?
What are the positive/negative number on the screen ?
What's the meaning of the speaker icon blanked in the down right side corner ?
Thank you for the help.

I think you know all the features now including the manual ground balance and the frequency shift for EMI. Have you joined us on the Official Quest Facebook group yet? https://www.facebook.com/groups/deteknix
OK , I got it.
Any other tips and tricks or hidden feature about the machine ?
You press and hold the ground balance button and use the VOLUME up and down buttons that are located on the side surface of the machine. That will scroll through the frequency offset.
You cannot change the operating frequency of the machine. That is fixed at 7.99 kHz.
You can only very slightly move the frequency by a matter hertz not kilohertz. It is the smallest of adjustments just to help avoid interference from nearby machines and electrical devices.
I read somewhere we can change the working frequency of the Q10 detector ( press and hold the ground balance button and use the volume up and down to scroll though) .
The question is what's the frequency range we can controll ?
On the spec notes it says that it works at about 8 kHz.
It would be great to see what you find with your X10. Do keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on with it. Also don't forget we have two facebook groups. https://www.facebook.com/groups/deteknix/ and https://www.facebook.com/groups/quest.metaldetectors.uk/ It would great to see you there!
Great .
I very much appreciate for your answers.
Now it is time to search and dig .
I'm very exited for my next camp.
If I'll find some interesting I'll post some pictures ion here .

Those are your tone settings. Unlike many machines in this price range which has a single fixed tone, the X10 gives you multiple tones to choose from.
C1: one mid tone without the low iron sound (usually referred to as iron grunt)
C2: one mid tone with iron the low iron sound.
C3: 3 tones low mid and high
C4: 4 tones
C5: 5 tones
C6: pitch tones or variable tones depends on signal strength.
So choosing your tones gives you more audio information about the target.
I normally only use C3 so you have low for iron and other ferrous metals. A mid tone for good non-ferrous targets that have lower conductivity such as gold rings. And a high tone for good non-ferrous targets with higher conductivity such as silver.
It is all about versatility and setting the detector to work in the way you are comfortable with it.
OK now I understand.
Sorry but I am a newbie here.
I have one more question for you.
Can you give me more in depth explanation about what C1 to C6 means and how to use them .
Thank you very much.
Ok, yes that is the threshold tone level when in all metal mode. Back in the old days most detectors would have a constant threshold sound. You could normally run quiet but that would reduce depth. But at the same time you don't want that sound blasting in your ears all the time! So you can set the level of this sound to suit yourself. Ideally it should be at a level where you can just about hear it. Anyway that is what the +/- figures represent. The level of the background tone in all metal mode.
Hi Franky. Congrats on your purchase of the X10, it is a great machine!
What exactly did you want to set up with the All Metal function? I normally leave it as it is.
The positive/negative numbers? Are you perhaps referring to the numbers on the depth scale on the right of the display? The + numbers are deeper, such as 7+ which would be 7 or more inches and the negatives are the opposite, so much shallower, near the surface. Of course, they are only a guide.
As for the blanked speaker icon in the bottom right? There are only two speaker icons that will appear on the screen and these appear in 'settings'. One shows when changing the number of tones in Jewellery and Coin mode. The other, and I think this might be the one you are referring to is for setting the "threshold" level in All Metal mode. It is not blanked though. It shows a sound wave across the speaker. Was that the one?
